Obama Addresses the U.S. School Children

Posted on September 7, 2009 at 10:30pm 0 Comments

Tomorrow, President Obama will address the nation's children. Several states have already decided that their schools will not air the address. The children in Texas, Illinois, Virginia, Wisconsin, Missouri and Minnesota will miss the address, and the parents of those children have lost the right to decide for themselves what is best for their children. What does this say to the world about democracy as a principle when a democratically elected President is not allowed to address a large portion… Continue

We've been trying... (My thoughts on customer service during a bad economy)

One of the things we wanted to do when we opened UCN was to share our positive business experiences with our members. We also agreed that we would not post negatives - we want to help local businesses grow, not hurt them by posting complaints (we have a pro's and a con's area in the forum where you can share YOUR business experiences with the membership here at UCN). Unfortunately, the last few places we've gone to have not been positive experiences.

Last night we went to a… Continue

Um, you have 5 kids and you work full time....I think we're both crazy! LOL!

On a serious note, We just moved, here to Charlotte, last week for my husband's job and are actually living in the Ballyntine area but are looking for homes in the Weddington/Matthews area....I think??? I don't know the areas that well so I was hoping to learn about them more from you locals :) My husband will be working in the city so we wanted a short commute but also great schools. Any suggestions?

About Me
My name is Erin, My husband and I have 5 children - from 5 to 19. I've recently started my own at-home business working in conjuction with CreativeUrge.com to help Design, Implement and Maintain websites. I have some wonderful clients, and I love my work. I specialize in the NING platform, and provide customized themes as well as logo banners and graphics needed to create a streamlined easy to navigate network.

I'm a firm believer in the value and impact of Social Media and Social Marketing for business and enjoy helping my clients create a network that showcases the product or service they're marketing.

I also serve as a virtual assistant and content manager for several of my clients and spend many hours creating relevent and effective newsletter content that relates to their business philosophy and vision.

My NING (partial) Portfolio

Fruition Health: This layout was made for s client who LOVED color. After seeing this layout and the many options available on NING that were not available to her while using her static site, she actually opted to shut down her other site and use her ning site as her main site.

29Gifts.org: This is the layout I designed to match the main site at 29gifts.org. This is one of my favorite layouts - I enjoyed finding ways to work in the polka dot background from the main site and porting it into the community without allowing it to be overwhelming. This layout took me roughly 30 hours, because of finding those subtle ways to give the user a feeling of continuity when leaving the main site and going to the community.

Unified Team Diving contracted this community website to use as their main site as well, though they do have a static site as well. We fully integrated their static site (used to allow for the registration process for their diving classes) but the majority of their time and energy is spent utilizing their NING network in order to network and further their business, as well as using it as an offshoot for discussion about their classes. I have to say, Andrew Georgitsis and his partner Jeff Seckendorf were fun to work with, and thanks to their notoriety within the diving community, their community has been the most quickly growing and succesful.

Daryn Kagan.com Online Community: Admittedly, the vast majority of the work was done before she hired me - the color scheme and theme had to match her site at DarynKagan.com, and a feeling of continuity was a must. This community was "set up" but not "designed" when I was hired on to help her with ongoing maintenance work, and I simply modified the existing layout to match her static site a bit better. Again, because of her famed days from working on CNN news, her community has experienced incredible growth.

TruuConfessions.com: These are 2 NING networks I developed to match the color scheme and 'feel' of the respective channels found on TruuConfessions. I spent roughly 20 hours matching colors and designing the theme. If it looks familiar, that would be because I liked the look so much I retrofitted it to become the layout here at UnionCountyNeighbors. :)
